      WHY BOVINE (COW) COLOSTRUM?

Research shows the immune and growth factors in cow's colostrum are structurally similar to those in human colostrum, which is part of why bovine colostrum is biologically compatible for human use.

      HOW SAFE IS PRO COLOSTRUM-LD®?

Colostrum is generally well tolerated, and no significant drug interactions have been documented in the available literature.† As with any supplement, patients should discuss use with their healthcare provider, particularly if taking other medications.

Note: We do not suggest the use of colostrum for people with milk protein allergies, are pregnant or have had a recent organ transplant.

HOW MUCH PRO COLOSTRUM-LD® SHOULD PATIENTS TAKE AND WHEN?

Our providers suggest between 2 tsp. – 1 TBSP per serving, though every person differs on the amount of colostrum that is needed. Some providers prefer starting patients with a higher initial serving before decreasing to a maintenance level, while others prefer starting low and gradually increasing. No significant toxicity has been documented with colostrum use.†

WHAT IF MY PATIENT IS LACTOSE INTOLERANT?

Rest assured, most people with lactose intolerance do not experience a problem with colostrum, as there is only a small amount of lactose present - about 250mg per serving - and specific beneficial bacteria to support lactase enzyme production. If, however patients have a severe (anaphylactic) milk protein allergy, you should re-evaluate them taking colostrum, due to its high protein count.

WHAT IF MY PATIENT IS VEGETARIAN AND DOESN'T CONSUME ANIMAL PRODUCTS?

Colostrum is a dairy-derived product, so it isn’t suitable for a strict vegan diet. That said, some vegetarians who include dairy in their diet choose to use colostrum — it has a long history of traditional use in various cultures, including parts of India where dairy has long been part of a vegetarian diet. We recommend patients make their own informed choice based on their personal dietary standards.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our customer service team. We appreciate your continued support and understanding.

HOW CAN MY PATIENTS JUSTIFY THE COST OF PRO COLOSTRUM-LD®?

With the varying quality of colostrum products on the market, we believe our sourcing and processing standards reflect that investment.

I DON'T WANT TO TAKE COLOSTRUM FROM THE CALVES. DO THEY GET ENOUGH?

Yes, the first milking must be reserved for the calf! It is essential that you and your patients choose a Colostrum company that ensures that the calves’ needs are met first. Many companies are promoting first milking colostrum as superior. The first milking does contain more immunoglobulins than subsequent colostrum milkings, however, it also contains blood and mucous which are NOT desirable for human consumption. It is best to buy colostrum collected over the first 48 hours.

HOW CAN COLOSTRUM HELP MY PATIENTS LOSE WEIGHT?

Colostrum naturally contains IGF-1, one of many growth factors it provides.† Some patients combine colostrum with an exercise and nutrition plan as part of an overall body-composition goal, though individual results vary and colostrum is not a weight-loss product on its own. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so while you may not notice a change on the scale, you will see the difference in the way your clothes fit!

HOW CAN COLOSTRUM HELP MY PATIENTS GAIN WEIGHT?

Within about two hours of eating, the body draws on stored fuel (fat and muscle protein) for energy, and it’s generally easier for the body to break down muscle tissue than fat. Increasing food intake along with exercise and colostrum supplementation may help support muscle mass gain rather than fat gain, since muscle tissue is denser than fat by volume.† This may be a useful consideration for providers working with athletes focused on performance and body composition.

HOW DOES COLOSTRUM PROMOTE NATURAL AGING SUPPORT?

Colostrum naturally contains growth factors that occur in smaller amounts in the body as we age.† Many patients incorporate colostrum into a healthy-aging routine alongside diet, exercise, and sleep

HOW DOES COLOSTRUM HELP WITH MOOD?

Some research suggests lactalbumin, a protein found in colostrum, may support a calm, balanced mood during stressful periods.†
